University of Sheffield, Sheffield
Wind turbine:
PowerWind 56
Installation date:
06.12.2011
Characteristics:
Since the beginning of December 2011, the rotor of the type PowerWind 56 is spinning on the premises of the University of Sheffield. The first kilo watt hours were produced on 6.12.2011. This is the first time for a PowerWind turbine to feed electricity into the UK grid. The university, a typical Community-scale customer, covers a part of its energy demand using wind power and, in doing so, benefit from the profitable remuneration system in the UK: The system promotes the operation of turbines with a rated power of less than one megawatt.
