Powerwind has commissioned its first 2.5 MW wind turbine

A prototype of the PowerWind 90 will be installed in Bremerhaven, Commissioning planned by the end of 2010. Husum, Germany, September 21, 2010 - The German manufacturer, PowerWind GmbH, has sold its first 2.5 MW wind turbine of type PowerWind 90 to the prestigious project developer wpd. The prototype, with a rotor diameter of 90 meters, will be erected in Bremerhaven, and the commissioning will be completed by the end of 2010. PowerWind did the site development and planning for wpd, and delivers the wind turbine fully operational.

"The entire package consisting of turbine, turnkey project and the location of Bremerhaven was very exciting for us as a Bremen company", declares Hauke Heitmann, head of project development at wpd. "The PowerWind 90 meets all the demands that we place upon a modern wind turbine in the 2-3 MW segment", adds Hauke Behrends, CEO of the Deutsche Windtechnik Service GmbH & Co. KG.
"We are proud and very delighted that Germany's largest developer has decided to purchase the PowerWind 90. This speaks well for the technological concept of our system and honors the commitment of the PowerWind team", says Hendrik Böschen, PowerWind's Senior Sales Manager.
The PowerWind 90 combines solid engineering with advanced power electronics. An innovative gear protection concept and the double main bearings ensure maximum durability and reliability. Due to its full scale converter, the PowerWind 90, with its excellent fault ride-through capabilities and an expanded reactive power control range, meets the most demanding of network requirements. An additional boon for the federal state of Bremen arises from the delivery of the 98 meter high tower from Ambau GmbH in Bremen. Beginning 2011, a product version of the 2.5 MW turbine will also be available with a 100 meter rotor diameter for moderate wind locations, which will also meet SDL requirements.
